Fame by way of magma...

The thing about being a writer/editor for ksl.com is that you never claim a byline for the stories you compose, which, to be honest, is completely fine by me.  That way when I make mistakes (which believe me, happens on a regular basis), I don't have to take the angry phone calls.
But our news director is fronting an effort to generate more original content for our website, which means the content managers (that's me) have each been assigned a subject (parenting, politics, health etc) on which to write "Daily Web Roundups."

Guess which topic I got.
Just guess.

Science.

I know, right?
Move over Bill Nye.

This assignment proved so intimidating to me that I seriously contemplated quitting immediately and fleeing to Argentina.
But I like to learn new things, even things that terrify me -- not to mention the fact I'm having a baby and need to fork out some cash for a double stroller -- so I took on the challenge with trembling fingers.

Today I wrote my first story as the "Weird Science" editor.
The topic: Yellowstone's supervolcano and its gigantic plume.
Up until now, I didn't even know there was a supervolcano at Yellowstone.
Nor did I know what a plume was.

See?  I'm already learning new things!

And though I'm not going to be winning the Pulitzer anytime soon, I actually had a lot of fun putting it together.

So here it is, in all it's glory.
Never thought I'd be so giddy to see my name in print.
Or type, anyway.

It probably means I'm stupid - but until I clicked the link and saw the words "By: Jessica" I didn't know why a byline was. Fancy news terms...

p.s. Aren't you glad that there aren't comments anymore? Those guys were freaks.
